We all know having issues after the latest windows update. And the latest is no exception: after update KB5012170 several users report their sound not working anymore. Luckily there are ways to fix it:
checking your default audio device
sometimes windows update changes the default audio device to the wrong device e.g. your graphics card.
Here’s how you can fix it:
- right click on the audio icon in the bottom right of your taskbar
- in the next window change your default audio device to the right one
and after that your sound should work again. If that didn’t fix the problem, try the next step:
restarting the windows audio service
sometimes you’ll have to restart the windows audio to get your sound back:
- press
windows key and 
r on your keyboard - enter services.msc and press enter or ok
- press yes to allow the app to make changes to your device
- now you see the windows services. search for Windows Audio
- right click on it and select restart
now your sound should work again.
